EXCEPTIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS ON dA ed. FEBRUARYfrom "Queen of Silhouettes" to "The Girl with the Pearl Earring"Hello everybody, this month we are together with wonderful photographer Iryna :iconIFedorovskaya:. In her galleries you will discover the magic of the light and admire how smoothly she handles it.-Tell us a little about yourself.Hello everybody and thank you for all your tremendous support and kindness you gave me here, on deviantart. I was born in Ukraine 40 years ago in family of professional musicians. Everybody, not only my mom and dad, uncles, aunts, cousins, my two stepfathers play or played instruments... Of course, I had no choice but to play piano. But then tradition was broken, I graduated from State Economics University. Worked as accountant for only 2 months (too boring). Then I was a DJ, host of couple shows on local radio station, political journalist. On weekends I

PE: Street Photography for expertsDefining Street Photographyby Dave BeckermanMost types of photography can be easily defined by their subjects. A wedding photographer takes pictures of weddings. A portrait photographer poses someone and takes their picture. The nature photographer covers a wide area, but it is easy to categorize.Street photography is difficult to define because it can encompass just about any subject. If I were to ask you to name a few famous street photographers, you might pick, Garry Winnograd, Henri Cartier-Bresson, or maybe Robert Frank. But if I asked you to define street photography that would be more difficult. You might say that street photography is candid pictures of strangers on the street. That might be a good start, but it doesn't really
CastawayTranslating and sharing with you this beautiful italian article by Michele Smargiassi about Garry Winogrand. Source: http://smargiassi-michele.blogautore.repubblica.it/2013/06/07/il-naufrago-delle-immagini/Big thanks to Pete :iconmangawhio: for the proofreading At the time of his unfortunate early death in 1984 at age 56, Winogrand left behind in his studio in Tijuana 2,500 rolls of undeveloped film, 6,500 rolls of developed but not proofed exposures (not made into contact sheets), and contact sheets made from about 3,000 rolls. What to do with this quantity of images, copyrighted but not authorized? Consider them as mere drafts, useful only to a philologist, or go through them hoping to find an unreleased masterpiece from one of the most destabilizing, unclassifiable, fascinating street photographers of our history?

SUDORAt long last I have achieved a task I have wanted to complete almost as long as I have been on dA: I went through SUDOR's amazing gallery.I faved hundreds of shots so I made a folder in my favourites section for his work.I am reminded of a quote by Henri Cartier-Bresson after the impressions I took with me from Joël's gallery:"[photography] It is a way of shouting, of freeing oneself, not of proving or asserting one's own originality. It is a way of life."Joël Sueur is gracious in sharing such a cornucopia of images covering different parts of his life: from the very intimate to the hilariously funny, and of course his wonderful street photography... it is all full of life! ... and weirdness ...

TPA featured photographer for July: meet Bassem Let me introduce you the star of this feature, Bassem or as you may know him :iconbatmantoo:. Why Bassem? Because!! Because I like his status of down to the earth man. No high altitudes, turbulence or drama.. Simple everyday life and tranquil moments of beauty. Mary, I believe, would describe his works as slow photography, but maybe I'm wrong. All I know for sure is the fact he enjoys photography a lot and the simple process of finding, framing and creating brings him joy. And that is all that matters! Also, I wanted to get to know him a little better.. Bassem has helped my busy schedule too.. I have asked him to write a 'bio' of himself, something he would like you to know about him..:iconbatmantoo:Don't forget to show him your support by clicking the icon above, commenting his works and while you there leave a lot of these !! Why Street Photography is not documentaryStreet photography is an eye focused on the ordinary, on the every day life. Its interest is in capturing every day moments and situations that filtered through the sensitivity, vision, personality of the photographer are able to pass emotions and sensations to the viewer.Moments can be of every kind: ironic, sad, melancholic, surreal, beautiful, wry, tender, poetic, destabilizing, iconic, descriptive. They all show aspects of life. Sharing with you an interesting article by Evangelo Costadimas. Failography"It is important to take bad pictures" (Diane Arbus)This is the beginning of an interesting book by Clément Chéroux, Fautographie : petite histoire de l'erreur photographique (I don't know if the book was translated in english, I couldn't find it on the net, but the title should sound like Failography: a brief history of the photographic error). Amongst the biggest 'mistakers' of photography, the book mentions and comments the works of many famous photographers: Man Ray, Lisette Model, Lee Friedlander, Ugo Mulas, Andreé Kertész, Lartigue. Many are the anecdotes and the interesting discoveries, for example the story of a big national contest in France, in 1991, entitled 'Fautographie' (fail photography), a contest that had a big success, with thousands of entries and famous editors and critics working on decoding the case of the photographic error. According to Chéroux what is commonly considered a 'photographic
